Me(me) Is Not Impressed
What I Did:
I began my assignment by pondering over ideas as to what people could relate to and find funny. After I had the idea in my mind I chose the two images that fit and emailed them to myself. I then opened them up on Photoshop and began the process. To start, I opened up the first picture which was a family picture of the Kardashians, but I wanted the main person to be Kendall Jenner due to her facial expression. With this picture I selected the Quick Selection Tool to select her. After this I then created a layer mask so it was only on Kendall and the background with the rest of her family became transparent with gray and white grids. I noticed some errors as I used the Quick Selection Tool so I fixed them by adding and subtracting selections. At the time I had both pictures opened in Photoshop so I took Kendall and dragged her into the picture of the fountain. From here I moved her around to where I thought she made a good fit. I noticed her skin tone was not exactly matched up with the background due to the sun shining so I made some changes with her image. I turned her into the Smart Objects option and added adjustment layers. With these layers, I adjusted the brightness up a little so it looked like the sun was shining on her face, but not too harsh. I increased the contrast as well to give some definition. I also played around with the adjustments on Hue/Saturation to give her some warmth to match the background. Once I was pleased with the way she looked the only thing left was to add the text. I made sure the text wasn't too big nor too small and applied the correct font that is typically used for memes. After I had a completed image, I saved the image as a JPEG and saved it under a folder in my USB to make sure I knew exactly where it was located.
What I Learned:
I have always loved memes and have found them hilarious. There is literally a meme for everything and I never realized how much work was put into them until this assignment. As you scroll through social media you are always bound to find a meme eventually. Although I find them hilarious, I have found a new appreciation for them once I began to make my own. I have experience with Photoshop, but I still found this assignment a bit challenging and I learned a lot from it. For example, how to overcome any issue that may pop up or using the right font like most other memes. When I began working on my meme, my mind blanked and I forgot some steps so the "Using the Marquee and Lasso Tools" video helped me out a lot and made me understand what I was doing wrong. Another video that helped me out a ton was "Scaling, skewing, and rotating with Free Transformation" because it explained how to move my picture around, how to change the opacity, how to resize my pictures, and how to rotate them so the proportions aren't thrown off.
My Meme:
When deciding on what I wanted to make my meme of I decided to go with something that most of us could relate to and would hopefully find funny. I thought the picture of Kendall Jenner truly captured the mood because I don't know about anyone else but it feels like I am walking by Niagara Falls when I walk by a fountain here. Overall, I had an extremely fun time with this assignment and know understand the process and steps needed to achieve a meme!
